Drain stoppage: If you decide to use a chemical drain cleaner, be very careful. Follow the directions and react immediately if you get the drain cleaner on your skin, eyes or even clothes. As a general aid to avoid getting drain blockages the following natural solution works really well. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into your drain, followed by 1/2 cup of white vinegar. The baking soda is basic and the vinegar is acidic, so they will react with a churning action that will help keep the drain clean without dangerous chemicals.
However, many times these options will not work with a blockage - please contact Tampa Bay Plumbers for a free evaluation and quote.
Leaking faucet: There are four major designs of faucets; compression, ceramic disk, cartridge and ball. Faucets in your kitchen or bathroom are all the same and are based upon the four major designs. When dealing with a leaky faucet, you need to remember that the loss of water is costly and you are reducing our natural resources.. A steady drip can waste $20 or more in water in a short time. Multiply that figure by the number of faucet drips in your home, and you can calculate how much of your money is literally going down the drain. The waste from a dripping hot water faucet is even more because you're also paying to heat the water before it goes down the drain.
What's the solution? Remember the water supply enters your home under pressure, so there must be a watertight seal holding back the incoming water when the faucet handle is in the OFF position. That seal is usually created by a washer pressed tightly against the faucet seat. Obviously, when the washer or the seat is not functioning properly, a little water can seep through and drip out of the faucet spout. To stop the drip, all you usually have to do is replace the washer or repair the seat.
Drain Assembly is Leaking: As drain trap assemblies have several parts, we would suggest that you let a professional install your - call Tampa Bay Plumbers for a speedy solution.
P-trap is leaking: How many times have you fixed your kitchen drain only to find out it still leaks. If you buy a new P trap, disconnect the p-traps from the drain line by unscrewing the nut shown. Keep a bucket handy for catching any drip. You don't need to shut the water off, just remember not to use the faucet. When you install the new drain, the new p-traps will simply screw back on here eliminating the need for any cutting and gluing. No thread tape or sealant is necessary when reconnecting.
However, if you are not a plumber, don't want to be a plumber and don't want to deal with the mess, call us at Tampa Bay Plumbers - we will send a technician out today.
Angle Stop is leaking: Angle stop repair is a quick easy fix normally. The stem extends out through a rather large size nut and this is the stem packing nut. Just use a crescent wrench if you do not have the correct size end wrench and tighten this nut about ¼ turn is usually all that is required but tighten until the leak stops when you open or close the valve. Sound too complex? Then call Customer Service at Tampa Bay Plumbers and we will see if we can help you.
Pop-Up Assembly is broken: Except for really old drains that rely on a rubber stopper to hold back the water, most sinks have a pop-up drain mechanism. Bathtubs have either the same type of pop-up stopper or a trip-lever (plunger-type) drain closure. When you're faced with a drain that won't hold water, you have to adjust the stopper. A trip-lever drain system has a strainer over the drain opening and an internal plunger mechanism that closes the drain. The plug is operated by a lever located in the overflow plate at the front of the tub. Raise the lever and it lowers a plug into the pipe at the base of the tub, blocking the flow of water out of the tub. This plug may have a rubber seal on its base that can become old or cracked. Also, debris can get into the seat where the plunger rests, causing a slow leak, for example hair. If you clean the assembly and you are still facing difficulties then give us a call. Removing the plug, cleaning it, and adjusting the control mechanism cures most problem.
Faucet is loose: The faucet wiggles when it shouldn't. Loose valves and faucets can easily be twisted off their pipes. Sometimes the pipe may even be broken by the pressure exerted on the pipe while opening and closing a valve. Loose spouts and valves in showers and tubs, kitchen sinks, protruding through siding or stucco, etc.; can allow water to run inside the wall or under counters.
It may be time to replace your old faucet - Tampa Bay Plumbers can advise you which faucet works best with your home design, then, we can install it!
Noisy Pipes/Vibrations/Water Hammer
Pipes are often held next to a wooden structure with a u clip. This may now be loose and the pipes are vibrating. Place a piece of rubber (hose) at the top an bottom of the pipe and the noise may abate. Pipes can also make too much noise when your thermostat is too hot - what you hear is steam in the pipes. Try turning down the thermostat if you like very hot water and observe. Water hammer is a specific plumbing noise which occurs when you shut off the water suddenly and the fast-moving water rushing through the pipe is brought to a quick halt, creating a sort of shock wave and a hammering noise.
Plumbing that's properly installed has air chambers, or cushions, that compress when the shock wave hits. The chambers can fail, though, because water under pressure gradually absorbs the air. If you never had hammering and then it suddenly starts, most likely your plumbing system's air chambers have become waterlogged. Drain Assembly is Leaking As drain trap assemblies have several parts, we would suggest that you let a professional install your - call Tampa Bay Plumbers for a speedy solution.

If you go on vacation, over time of non-use, your dishwasher will lose its prime. That is to say that the water in the dishwasher water pump has dried out and requires priming for the pump to operate. Adding water to the bottom of the unit restores the prime and function of the dishwasher. Pumps do not require a prime in this application. Gravity provides the priming water by filling the collection chamber. More likely it is that the rubber seal has dried out and is stuck to the metal pump shaft, the water frees it by acting as lubrication.
Leaks from underneath: Water does not drain, is stopped up. There are a number of possible causes when the water does not drain, but most likely it is that the strainer is clogged.- Dishwasher has odor, smells Again, there are a number of possible causes of odor in a dishwasher. First check that the seals are clean - we have serviced client who have had black (and smelly) mold on the seals. Next, ensure that the trap or strainer does not contain old & decaying food particles.
Supply line is leaking: Often over time, the supply line can crack with age and impact from material in the water itself. The supply line or the water inlet valve controls the amount of water flowing into the dishwasher. It may be activated by the timer or by a solenoid. If the dishwasher doesn't fill, test the solenoid with a volt-ohm-milliammeter (VOM) set to the RX1 scale. Disconnect one electrical lead to the solenoid and clip one probe of the VOM to each solenoid terminal. If the meter reads from about 100 ohms to 1,000 ohms, the solenoid is functioning. If the reading is higher than 1,000, the solenoid is faulty and should be replaced. However badly worn or misshapen inlet valves cannot be repaired. If the valve is damaged, replace it with a new one made for the dishwasher. Tampa Bay Plumbers has several experts who can diagnose the pipe that is leaking, the underlying reason for the leak (perhaps a blockage) and repair the model.

Ice Makers
Supply line is leaking / poor water pressure: Freezers with automatic ice makers sometimes malfunction because the water inlet valve strainer that feeds water to the ice maker becomes clogged. This can cause leaks at the back of the freezer. To correct this problem, unplug the appliance and disconnect the water supply. Remove the water line where it enters the valve--usually at the bottom edge of the unit. Locate the wire strainer and remove it.
Ice does not eject: The most common problem found is the ejector gear or motor are malfunctioning and will need repair. Also test the holding switch, the thermostat and the ice mold heater.
Doesn't make ice: There may be a number of problems that can prevent ice from being made, including:
Check the shutoff arm is functioning
The supply valve may be clogged
Inspect the water supply line
Test the shut off switch
Ensure the freezer temperature is adequate to make ice
Inspect the ejector gear and motor
You should also test the ice mold heater, the holding switch and the inlet switch to ensure they are all working to spec. This sounds like a job for the Tampa Bay Plumbers - call for a free estimate.

Garbage Disposals
The garbage disposer uses an spinning impeller blade to force debris into the blades along the side. As it spins, it grinds the debris through the blades into particles that can easily be flushed through the drain. The disposer relies on water flow to turn the food bits into a slurry that can be easy flushed through the drain. The garbage disposer is not good at grinding fibrous foods like banana peels, celery, artichokes and corn husks. Fibrous foods do not grind into particles but instead creates strings, which tend to jam the disposer and clog the drain.
Makes humming sounds: It may be jammed, or in a worse case situation, the engine has burned out. You should try to un jam first - many garbage disposers come with an Allen wrench designed to fit into a hole at the bottom of your disposer. Use a flashlight to locate the hole, insert the Allen wrench and turn the disposal back and forth to loosen the jam. Turn the power on at the breaker, run cold water and try to turn the disposal on again.
When turned on, nothing happens: When your disposal stops turning, it is often because it senses an overload of power and automatically shuts off. As a precaution, wait a few moments to let the disposal cool down. Most disposers have a reset button on the underside of them. After the unit is cool, press the reset button, run cold water and try turning it on again. If this does not solve the problem, you may need to inspect the cord or wiring. Do not be ashamed to call Tampa Bay Plumbers to repair the damaged disposal.
I put something in there, and its jammed: There are a number of simple steps that you can start with. After you check the power is off at the breaker ,use a flashlight to locate and identify the obstruction and, if possible, use metal tongs to lift out the obstruction. If this does not work then you may try using a special turning tool (when available)a broom handle, or a wooden spoon. Turn the power on at the breaker, run cold water and try to turn the disposal on again.
Backed up, draining slowly: Food matter will occasionally accumulate in the drain and cause a clog. If an ordinary drain cleaner does not remedy the clog, you'll have to get your hands dirty. However, if that task does not appeal to, why not contact Tampa Bay Plumbers and we can repair
Foul smells: Like all kitchen appliances , you will need to use frequently and maintain. If a garbage disposal is not used frequently, food can sit a in the disposal and then will start to decompose, causing bad odor. Run the disposal at least one time per week and flush with water. If the smell persists, you may have a deeper seated problem - please call Tampa Bay Plumbers and we can advise you if you need our services.
Refrigerator
Refrigerator Leakages: Clogs are usually caused when dust, moisture and micro-organisms get together in the drain tube. Keep the dust vacuumed from the back and bottom of the fridge. Make sure the drain tube is firmly connected at all points. The problem could also be related to the drain pan - it could be simply overfilling. At Tampa Bay Plumbers, we suggest it should be cleaned at least once a year. If this does not stop the flow of water, call Tampa Bay Plumbers and we will send an technician out to repair the problem.
Refrigerator turns on and off very frequently: There are a number of areas to check. First ensure all the condenser coils are cleaned and dust-free. Other simple solutions that you can check include a test of the condenser fan. However, if those options do not work, there may be larger problems such as the compressor relay / motor not working, overload protector malfunctioning , or the outlet voltage fluctuating. Please call Tampa Bay Plumbers to schedule an appointment.
Appears to be leaking from the refrigerator: As referred to before check the drain pan is in position and is not overfilled. Water in the drain pan is expected and does not merit a call to a plumber for a repair. However, if the water is not coming from that source, you should contact Tampa Bay Plumbers Customer Service right away. |
